Richard Lyle Daniel, 79 years old of Finksburg, died Monday, August 22, 2011 at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA.
Born April 24, 1932 in West Point, Virginia, he was the son of the late Harry and Edith Haley Daniel.
He was the husband of Estale Harris Daniel, his wife of 55 years.
He was a graduate of West Point High School. He served honorably with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He obtained his B.M.E. degree at Shenandoah Conservatory where he was the first saxophone major, and then his M.A. degree from the University of Maryland. He attended Loyola College. He was an instrumental music teacher and drivers education instructor for 35 years at Franklin and Owings Mills High Schools. He also taught at McDaniel College. He played in numerous jazz bands. He was a member of the Jaycees, the Music Teachers Association, Band Directors of Maryland and All Saints Episcopal Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Gregory Scott Daniel of Westminster and Christopher Todd Daniel, (his wife Claudia), of Sykesville and 2 grandchildren: Nicole and Matthew Daniel.
He was predeceased by his brother Herbert Daniel.
Friends may call on Thursday and Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A. 11605 Reisterstown Rd. Owings Mills.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11:00 AM at All Saints Episcopal Church, 203 E. Chatsworth Ave. Reisterstown. Rev. Dr. David Stenner officiating.
Interment in All Saints Cemetery.
