Richard Carl Merriken, Sr. died Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Seasons Hospice in Randallstown.
Born October 27, 1927 in Baltimore, Md. he was the son of the late Thomas W. Merriken, Sr. and the late Edith L. Stapf Merriken.
He was the husband of Mary Randall Merriken his wife of 62 years.
He was a retired Logistics Manager for Westinghouse Electric. He was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America for 61 years. He was past president and life member of the Glyndon Vol. Fire Dept. He was a member of the Baltimore County Firemen's Association where he was the scholarship trustee chairman. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 116, the D.A.V., Chestertown Elks Lodge 2474, All Saints Episcopal Church in Reisterstown, MD. and was also a Ham Amateur Radio Operator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons: Richard Merriken, Jr. of Columbia, MD., Ronnie Merriken of Reisterstown, MD. and Randall Merriken of Charleston, West Virginia. Sisters: Betty Jane Treuting of Pikesville, MD., Vida Wheeler of Mill Valley, California and Doris Jean Edwards of Finksburg, MD. Brother: Thomas Merriken, Jr. of Joppa, MD. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son: Russell Merriken.
Funeral services will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 203 E. Chatsworth Ave. Reisterstown, MD. 21136 on Wednesday Feb. 24, 2010 at 10:00 am.
Interment will be held in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills, MD. at a later date.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A. 11605 Reisterstown Rd. Owings Mills, MD.
