Richard William Stem, Sr., 96, of Glyndon, passed peacefully Monday, August 8, 2016 at the Dove House in Westminster. Born July 18, 1920 in Westminster, he was the beloved husband of Rosemary Betty Carter Stem, his wife of 72 years.
He was an electrician for the American Totalisator Company. He served honorably in WWII with the Army Air Force. He was a member Glyndon United Methodist Church, the Baltimore County Volunteer Fireman's Association Hall of Fame, the Maryland State Fireman's Association Hall of Fame, American Legion Post 116 and was a life member of both Glyndon & Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Companies.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Richard W. Stem, Jr. and wife Judy of Westminster, Carol Beimschla, and Colin Jay Stem and wife Linda all of Red Lion, PA; his grandchildren: Toni, Jennifer, Richard III, Jimmy, Heather, Timmy and Krissy; and also survived by his 18 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by siblings; Irene Stem, Kate and James Lambert.
The family will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A. 11605 Reisterstown Rd. Owings Mills (21117) where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg.
