Robert Roosevelt Higgs, 90, of Reisterstown, passed away in his sleep on Sunday, June 23, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born January 10, 1934, in Baltimore to Benjamin Harrison Higgs, Sr. and Cora Guernee' Reeder Higgs. He was the 9th child of thirteen siblings. He was the beloved husband of 67 years to Betty Shaffer Higgs.
At a young age, Bob worked as a carpenter for his oldest brother, alongside his father and brothers as a residential carpenter. He then joined the U.S. Navy March 1952 as a Seabee and was honorably discharged December 1953. Following his time in the Navy, he went to work at Koontz Creamery until they closed in 1977. He returned to his roots as a carpenter working with his brothers at White Construction from which he retired. He also worked part-time as a realtor with Zelma B. Ensor Agency. After his retirement from White Construction, he spent his time in his woodshop making bird feeders. Eventually, he went back to doing what he loved, residential carpentry, working with his son, grandson, and close family friend, Schmitty.
Bob was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reisterstown. He also was a member of Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company and the American Legion. In his early years, he liked to play golf, was a pitcher for fast-pitch softball and bowled duckpin for several church leagues. He enjoyed camping, watching NASCAR, watching golf, snacks, steamed crabs and ice-cold beer. Nothing gave him more delight than spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each one was special and held their very own place in his heart.
He leaves behind his wife, Betty; their children Dirk Henderson Higgs (Stacy) and Heather Higgs Kasda (Dave); grandchildren Thad J. Highlander, Jr. (Alexis), Jeremy D. Highlander (Shelby), Katherine B. Bradley (Nathan) and Bryce A. Gardner; great-grandchildren Emma, Ruxton, Cora, Leo and Bobby. Sisters Arleen Tarbart and Caroline Marschall, sister-in-law Charlene Higgs and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Margurite Dietz, Florence Cunningham, Warner Higgs, Helen Pobletts, Janice Kump, Benjamin Higgs, Jr., Margie MacDonald, Karl Higgs, Sharon Nash, and Darius Higgs.
Per his wishes there will not be a viewing and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company, Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department, Trinity Lutheran Church or a veterans charity of your choice.
