Robert Benjamin Miller, 80, of Westminster, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster.
Born April 24, 1929, in Cowen, W. Va., he was the son of the late William and Hazel Jarvis Miller. He was the husband of Mary Lucille Romano Miller, his wife of 58 years.
He was a civil engineer and held his Professional Engineer's License. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.
Professionally, he worked on the construction of the original William Lane Preston Jr. Memorial Bridge, commonly known as the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, spanning Anne Arundel and Queen Anne's Counties.
In his spare time, he enjoyed feeding blue birds, working in his garden, and riding his John Deere Tractor, for which he was known as the "Lawn Ranger."
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children and spouses Barbara C. and Patrick Forster, Robert D. and Michelle Miller, and Bill and Helen Miller; siblings Leon, Ralph, Fred and Joe Miller, and Millie Edwards; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester.
A requiem mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 2930 Hanover Pike, Manchester, with the Rev. Michael Roach officiating.
Interment will be in New Lutheran Cemetery in Manchester.
