Roger Lewis Schultz Sr., born to the late Earl Wesley Schultz Sr. and the late Esther Walsh Schultz in Hampstead, MD on July 30, 1933, went home to be with Jesus peacefully in his sleep on Thursday September 4, 2025 where he resided at Brentwood at Fore Ranch assisted living facility in Ocala, FL.
He is survived by his loving wife of nineteen years Barbara Hutson Schultz and her family, his son, best friend, and caregiver Roger Schultz Jr., his son-in-law Wayne Butler, and his many nieces and nephews. His memory is carried on by his grandchildren: Jessica & Levi Renno of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; Ian & Naomi Butler of Fairfax, VA; Megan Butler of Bloomsburg, PA; Erica & Stefano (Federico) Illiano of Cuasso al Monte, Italy; Jordan & Vanessa Schultz of Wisbech, UK; and Heidi & Sean Knoedler of Lynch Station, VA, fourteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Roger was preceded by his parents; his first wife of fifty-two years, Ruth Williams Schultz; his daughter Roxann Butler; and his three siblings: Earl W. Schultz Jr., Aubrey M. Schultz, and Linda L. Long. He was proud of his entire family, a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He graduated from Franklin High School in Reisterstown, MD, and attended Philadelphia College of the Bible in Philadelphia, PA, King's College in New Castle, DE, and Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, PA where he received his Bachelors of Science. He continued post graduate courses in missions leadership at Columbia Bible College in Columbia, SC.
Roger was a man of high integrity. He was a founding partner of Care Homes and RMS Inc operating across Carroll County, MD. He was a successful residential builder, real estate developer, and Youth for Christ collaborator as well as other organizations in the course of time. He was a missions and medical pilot in Botswana, Africa with the Africa Evangelical Fellowship, an AEF Field Office Manager, and an AEF ambassador.
Roger attended Riverland Baptist Church in Dunnellon, FL as long as his health permitted. He was always a vested church member anywhere he lived from Florida, to Maryland, to Botswana and elsewhere. His other significant church homes were Volusia County Baptist Church in Orange City, FL; Church of the Open Door in Westminster, MD; and Grace Bible Church of North Carroll in Manchester, MD where he was a long time member and the Missions Committee Chairman. He volunteered his time as a cheerful Church greeter and a dedicated Sunday School teacher primarily for newly married couples and those who were missions oriented. He was known as a faithful servant and a great encourager; always joyful, dearly loved and sought out by many. God gave Roger incredible diverse interest in many aspects of the Lord's work. His life mission and heartbeat was to be an ambassador for Christ announcing the greatness of Jesus Christ; the grace and mercy of God.
