Ruth Ellene Leister

Ruth Ellene Leister, 98, of Manchester, MD, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Longview Healthcare Center in Manchester, MD. Born in Ebbvale, Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Paul Edgar and Jennie Marie Alban Sterner. She was the wife of the late Walter Hunt Leister for 56 years.

Ruth graduated from Manchester High School as one of 28 students in the Class of 1937. She was a homemaker who had a special interest in flower and vegetable gardening, and she was also an accomplished seamstress. Throughout her adult life, Ruth developed interest and skill in quilting, crochet, and needlepoint. She completed various projects in all of those areas. She was a life-long member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church where she shared her interest in music for a remarkable 60 years as pianist/organist. Her late-in-life project was a source of pride: she used many shades of brightly colored yarn to crochet juvenile-size blankets. Over her ninth decade, Ruth donated 125 crocheted blankets to Project Linus.

Surviving her is a daughter: Janet L. Flickinger and husband Kenneth R., daughter in law: Gloria D. Leister, grandchildren: Peggy Bruck and husband Kevin, Kimberly Cartier and husband Robert, Sandra Leister, and Brian Flickinger, great grandchildren: Stephen Bruck, Danielle Bruck, Gabrielle Cartier, and Matthew Cartier, and 2 young great-great granddaughters.

She was predeceased by a son: W. Robert Leister.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, March 29, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102, where a funeral service will be held on Friday March 30 at 11:00am. Interment to follow in John Luther Miller Memorial Cemetery, Westminster, MD.
