Ruth Esther Packham, 71, of Upperco died Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.

Born June 27, 1941 in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rev. William B. Furgess and Grace E. Tunner Furgess. She was the wife of David Alan Packham, her husband of 30 years, who died on December 4, 2008.

She was a member of Babcock Presbyterian Church in Towson, where in her early years she worked in the church childcare program. She was a member of the Concordia Order of the Eastern Star in Parkville. She was a graduate of Sharon Senior High School.

She was a woman of faith. She especially enjoyed the company of her nephews and niece-in-law and doted on her great niece and great nephews, whose visits she enjoyed with all her heart and hers was a life of love.

Surviving is her sister Rev. LoisAnn Furgess-Oler of Upperco; her brother-in-law Bruce Packham and his wife Sally; her nephews Jonathan Oler, Brian Packham and wife Maura, and Gregory Packham; a great niece Yanna Oler; and great nephews Aidan, Joseph, and Ethan Packham.

She was predeceased by her brother-in-law David Oler.


The family will receive friends 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester with a funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday at Babcock Presbyterian Church, 8240 Loch Raven Boulevard, Baltimore with her pastor the Rev. Dr. Harry Cahill officiating.

Interment will be in Parkwood Cemetery in Baltimore.
