Ruth Miriam Preston, 73, of Sykesville, formerly of Reisterstown, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Fair Haven in Sykesville.
Born Feb. 24, 1934, in New York, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward Dickson and Ruth Beatrice Mason Dickson. She was the wife of Walter Melvin Preston.
She graduated from high school in Cumberland and was a 1956 graduate of Western Maryland College, where she went on to receive a master's degree. She taught for several years in Baltimore.
She was den mother for Cub Scout Pack 309. She was president of the Reisterstown Golden Age Club. She was active in two churches, Northminster Presbyterian and most recently Covenant of Grace Presbyterian, both in Reisterstown.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughter and son-in-law Linda and Lynn Tyce of Aurora, Colo.; sons Wayne Preston of Ellicott City and Gary Preston and his partner Frank Riggio of Baltimore City; and a grandchild, Olivia Lynn Tyce.
She was predeceased by a son, Michael Preston.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Covenant of Grace Presbyterian Church, 820 Nicodemus Road, Reisterstown, with the Rev. Herbert E. Ruby III officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills.
