S. Ross Price

S. Ross Price, 97, of Hampstead, MD, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Homewood of Plum Creek, Hanover, PA. Born on March 8, 1924, in Sparks, MD, he was the son of the late Samuel M. and Bessie Price (née Thompson). He was the beloved husband for 72 years to the late E. Anita Price, who predeceased him on April 14, 2016.

Ross graduated from Sparks High School in 1943. He participated in soccer, basketball and cross country. He was inducted into Sparks-Hereford Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame in May 2011. He started farming as a sharecropper until they purchased their own farm in 1954 in Hampstead. He also drove 2 school buses for Baltimore County while he owned and operated the North Carroll Shell gas station.

He was a charter member of the Church of the Open Door in Westminster. He served as a deacon and sang with the Super Sixties group. He served on the board of directors of Southern States Coop in Hampstead and also Westminster Rescue Mission.

Surviving him are children: Gary Price and wife Jean of Hampstead, Charlene Price of Westminster, and Cindy Price of Dundalk, his brother: Paul Price and wife Cathy of Cockeysville, his grandchildren: Dana and husband Darrell, Stephanie and husband Joe, Jeff and wife Kathy, Dan, Kristen and husband Dave, and his great-grandchildren: Dylan, Travis, Jamie, Joshua, Andrew, Alex, Ryan, Brittany, Brantley, and Ryleigh.

He was predeceased by his daughter: Linda Symes, son-in-law: John Symes, and his siblings: Pauline Wilhelm, Marie Bosley, Donald Price and Mae Snyder.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 28 from 9-11 am at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am, with Rev. Dr. John Campbell officiating.

Interment to follow in Greenmount Church Cemetery, Greenmount, MD.
