Sam Smith, Jr.

Sam Smith, Jr., 92, of Reisterstown, MD, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at BridgingLife at Northwest Hospital.  Born on December 28, 1931, in Rogersville, TN, he was the son of the late Samuel Venoy Smith, Sr, and Mary Pearl Smith. He was the beloved husband of Mary Alice Grindstaff Smith.

Sam was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked as a teacher for Baltimore City. Sam was a former member of Reisterstown Baptist Church, where he was very active and sang in the choir.

Surviving him in addition to his wife is a daughter: Gina Marie Officer of Westminster, MD, grandchildren: Rachel and husband Christopher, Cria, Michelle and husband Isaiah, Sarah, and Michael, great-grandchildren: Chloe, Noah, Nathan, Jack, and Lily, and a sister: Bitsy of Florida. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

He was predeceased by a son-in-law: Jeffrey Officer, and siblings: Delma, Alma, Thelma, Hazel, Frances, Bobbie, Roy, and Alan.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, May 28, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, at 10 am.

Interment will be held in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery on Friday, May 31, at 10:45 am.
