Stanley "Stan" Lee Cochran, Sr. of Reisterstown passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 20, 2023 with his family by his side. He died of natural causes. Stan was 86 at the time of his death.
Son of John Raymond and Julia Lynch Cochran of Monkton, Maryland, Stan was the youngest of eight children. He graduated from Bel Air High School in 1954, where he met his wife, the late Bernadine Fleckenstein. They were married a year after high school and had seven children, twenty-two grandchildren, eight great grandchildren (with two more due this year.) Stan was very proud of serving in the Marine Corps the first three years of his married life. He was also proud of being a third-degree Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus at Sacred Heart Church in Glyndon, Maryland where he and his family were members for 60 years.
As a Bendix field engineer, Stan travelled to exotic places around the world to include Madagascar, Canberra, and Germany to establish tracking stations for the Apollo project. Stan had a second career with the United States post office where he used his skills to fix anything on high-speed postal sorters.
Known as "Grandstan" to his grandchildren, he loved telling them stories of growing up in rural Harford County and racing down country roads. Stan loved to dance and was a regular at the "Towson Feet on the Street" and would dance with anyone in the crowd. Stan never met a stranger.
After he lost his wife of nearly 45 years, Stan would spend winters in Siesta Key, Florida and made many friends on the beach and in the local dance venues.
He is survived by his sister: Julia Neumann in Ohio, and his seven children and their families: Sandy Murphy (Mike) of CA; Stacy Kines (Bob) of FL; Stan Jr. (Whitney) of DE, Steve (Mary Ann) of Texas; Scott (Teri) of Texas; Stephanie Clancy (Mike) of MD; and Suzanne Higgins (Pete) of ME.
