Thomas Philip Gist, 76, of Hanover passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009 at his home.
Born on January 18, 1933 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Thomas M. Gist and Agnes P. Rodenhiser Gist.
He was the loving husband of the late Marylou Gist who passed away on June 24, 2009. They had been married for 54 years.
He was in the 101st Airborne during the Korean War from January 4, 1955-December 17, 1956. He was the transferred to active reserves December 17, 1956-January 3, 1963.
He worked for Carroll County Roads Department until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of Hope Baptist Church in Hanover, PA.
He was a loving father and is survived by his children James T. Gist of Littlestown, PA, his daughter Colleen M. and husband David L. Pyles of Hanover, PA, and his daughter Michele R. and husband Michael E. Magara, Sr. of Mechanicsburg, PA; his sister Eleanor Younger of Eldersburg, MD; and his 5 grandchildren, and his 8 great grandchildren and a nephew.
He was predeceased by his Uncle Edward Rodenhiser, his grandchildren Steven P. Gist and Laura J. Gist and his nephew John F. Hayden, V and his niece Debra L. McKay
The family will receive friends on Monday from 3-5 and 7-9p.m. at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A. 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Baptist Church, 6450 Hope Way, Hanover, PA with Rev. Allen G. Harris officiating.
Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville.
