Thomas Alban Raver, 87 of Manchester, MD. passed Saturday July 22, 2017 at the Hanover Hospital in Hanover, PA. Born Nov. 20, 1929 in Upperco, MD. he was the son of the late Franklin Eugene and Hazel LaRue Alban Raver. He was the husband of 66 years to Shirley May Allgire Raver.
Tom graduated in 1948 from Hampstead High School. He was an Army Veteran where he served in Korea and was part of the 1 st Calvary 82 nd Field Artillary. After serving his country, he started selling life insurance and opened Thomas A. Raver Insurance Agency in Hampstead. Tom was a life member and past president of the Hampstead Volunteer Fire Dept., he attended Calvary Bible Church and was a member and Sunday school teacher at Wesley United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the North Carroll Jaycees, Hampstead Rotary Club and served on the Hampstead Town Council. He also served on the board of the Hampstead Bank, Carroll County Bank (BB&T) and was past president on the Carroll County Board of Education.
Tom bred and raised American Paint Horses, he was an avid hunter, hunting all over the United States, Canada and British Columbia. He enjoyed being with family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children; Herbert E. Raver Sr. and wife Linda of Hampstead, Fay Miller and husband Kenneth of Manchester and Glenn Thomas Raver and wife Dawn of Manchester, grandchildren; Herbert Raver Jr., Jaclyn Raver, Thomas Raver, Laura Araujo, Johnathon Raver, Adam Raver Sr., Kristen Miller, Kurt Miller, Benjamin Raver and Dana Raver, 8 great grandchildren, Siblings; Helen Lee Matthews, Janice Raver, Robert Raver, Carlos Raver, Gail Buckler, Joy Martin and brother in law; Robert Allgire.
He was predeceased by brothers; Donald Raver and E. Eugene Raver.
The family will receive friends at the family owned ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Dr., Manchester, MD. on Monday July 24, 2017 from 3-5 and 7-9pm. with a funeral to be held on Tuesday at 10:00am. at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow in Wesley Church Cemetery, Hampstead, MD.
