Urie J. "Bud" Watson, 91, of Manchester, MD, formerly of Owings Mills, MD, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at his home. Born on November 22, 1931, in Owings Mills, MD, the son of the late Millie Hinkhaus, wife of Roland, and the late Urie Watson, husband of Nellie. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Carol.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Robin Greenlee and husband Mark, and son Jerry and his wife Donna, three grandchildren: Ashley Myers and husband Coty, Daniel Watson and wife Jazzmen, Cory Tasley and husband Kevin, two step granddaughters, Tobie Burton and Stacie Savage and husband Mitch, and three great-grandchildren, Millie Myers, Izzy Myers, and Miles Watson.
Bud proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 – 1954.
After the service, he became a carpenter, eventually becoming a construction manager. He spent most of his construction career with E. Eyring & Sons Company of Baltimore, MD. In 1976, Bud and his cousin and friend Mike Woolford started W&W Racing Tires. In 1979 he left his construction career and worked full time with W&W. W&W transitioned into Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic. He owned and operated Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic until he sold the company and retired at the age of 79. He was inducted into the Auto Racing Club of Maryland Hall of Fame in 2016.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, January 20, 2023, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm and from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD 21102. A memorial service will begin at 7:30 pm.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, 3209 Main Street, Manchester, MD 21102.
