Vernice L. Hetrick, 88, of Hanover, PA, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, surrounded by her family at her home. Born on July 29, 1937, in Snydersburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late Albert Robert Rill and Laura Virginia Ebaugh. She was the beloved wife of 56 years to the late Edward “Jack” Jackie Hetrick, who passed away in 2012.
Vernice was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, and her favorite activity was holding babies. She enjoyed watching the Orioles and the Ravens. Vernice had a sweet tooth with a love for ice cream. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving her are children: Lorraine V. Mason and husband Steve, Michael J. Hetrick and wife Patti, Sherry M. Mummert and husband Keith, Glen L. Hetrick and wife Jeanette, Carol A. Doermann and husband David, Candy L. Herb and husband Dwaynne, 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Vernice was predeceased by her son: Roger Allen Hetrick, granddaughter: Melanie Gladfelter, great-grandson: Austin Moschetti, and siblings: Ella Murray, John Rill, George Rill, Albert Rill, Jr., Perry Rill, Virginia Mays, Dorothy King, Freida Unger, and Eleanor “Dolly” Sterner.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, March 5, from 6-8 pm, and on Friday, March 6, from 10-11 am, at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am.
Interment to follow in St. Marks Church Cemetery in Snydersburg, MD.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered in Vernice’s name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.
