Vernon Hoyle Melton, 77, of Upperco died Oct. 16, 2007 at University of Maryland Medical Center. He was the son of the late Everette and Mattie Causey Melton. He was the wife of 52 years to Elizabeth May Sprinkle Melton.
Mr. Melton was veteran of the United States Navy where he did submarine service. He formerly worked for the Baltimore County Police Department in Reisterstown and is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He retired as a mechanic from Schmidt Baking Company. He was a member of American Legion Post 116, Reisterstown for many years. He was a member of Dover United Methodist Church, Reisterstown for many years where he held various offices in the church. He was the caretaker of the Dover United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife is his son James Michael Melton, Baltimore, grandchildren Rachael, Christopher, Vanessa, and Matthew Melton, great grandson Tyler Melton, sister Mary Waltz, Westminster and also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Vernon Lee Melton, brother Robert Melton, and sister Dorothy Long.
A funeral service will held Friday, 2:00 p.m. at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester. Interment will be in Dover United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home on Thursday from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dover United Methodist Church Cemetery, 5012 Frye Road, Upperco, Maryland 21155.
