Vernon C. Wolfe of Westminster, MD, passed away in his home surrounded by his family Thursday, October 8, 2014, at the age of 88.
Vernon was born in Manchester, Maryland on February 21, 1926 to the late Maurice and Lillian Arbaugh Wolfe. On June 2, 1946, he married Florence M. Hoke of Westminster, MD, who survives him. Other family members include his daughters, Brenda and son in law, Mahlen Petry of York Springs, PA, Alice and deceased son in law, Gehrie (Ted) Bair of Timberville, VA, Melody and son in law Thomas Hartman of Columbia, PA and Ruthanne and son in law Martin Chamelin of Westminster, MD. He also has ten beloved grand-children and 25 great-grand-children.
During his life, he was a dairy farmer in Bachman's Valley, was a member of the Farm Bureau, was instrumental in starting a 4-H Club, and was the Outstanding Young Farmer of Carroll County in the 1950s. He served on the Board of the Westminster Rescue Mission and was a Member of the Calvary Bible Church in Hanover, PA.
A memorial service led by pastors Michael Oslidil of Hanover, PA and grandson Samuel Chamelin of Lineboro, MD, will be held on Monday at 11:30 am at the Calvary Bible Church, 603 Wilson Ave. Hanover, PA.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 7-9 pm. at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD and on Monday from 10:30 until 11:30 am at the church.
A private burial at the John Luther Miller Cemetery in Bachman's Valley, MD. will precede the service.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial gifts be made to the Missions Ministry of the Calvary Bible Church, 603 Wilson Ave., Hanover, PA 17331.
