Vina Belle Hedges, age 97 of Westminster, MD passed away peacefully, Saturday Sept. 26, 2015 at the Lorien Assisted Living in Taneytown, MD.
Born February 10, 1918 in Blakeley, West Virginia she was the daughter of the late James William and Melvina Mullins Stewart. She was the wife of the late Clifton Wright Hedges who died January 18, 2012 at the age of 94. They were married on April 16, 1938 in Forestville, Prince Georges, Maryland.
Vina was a homemaker who enjoyed arts and crafts. Specifically, she excelled in cake decorations, decoupage, needlework and rug braiding. She enjoyed telling stories of her early childhood and often spoke of her experiences living and surviving in the rural mountain areas of West Virginia and Kentucky.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Roseanne Hedges of Westminster, MD: two grandchildren, Garrett C. Hedges of Loveland Ohio, Kara Sasse of Washington, D.C. and five great- grandchildren, Abbygael, Gagrielle and Everett Hedges, Finn and Else Sasse. Sisters, Marjorie Waddick of Kingston, Ohio and Dorothy Shanks of Clearwater, Florida and a brother, Charles Stewart of Fairfax, Virginia.
She was predeceased by siblings, Romuless Stewart, Jack Stewart, Thelda Tretecoste and Irissa Nicholson.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday Sept. 29, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. at the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL P.A., 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, MD.
Funeral services and interment will be held in Kingston, Ohio in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery family plot.
