Virginia “Ginny” L. Abbott, 89, of Upperco, MD, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD. Born on January 3, 1937, in Hampstead, MD, she was the daughter of the late Ethel and Leonard Grote. She was the beloved wife of 67 years to Russell “Bud/Pop” Abbott.
Ginny was part of the second class of students to graduate from the “new” Hereford High School. Years ago, she was a seamstress and even created a couple custom wedding gowns. She then went on to work as a mail carrier with USPS and retired after 30 years of service. She worked in her flower garden every chance she got and liked tending to her lawn. Ginny loved watching and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed seeing her granddaughter play softball and show horses. Ginny also rode and showed horses, and throughout her life, she raised German Shepherd dogs. There are many fond memories from the family pool trips and to the family cabin in PA. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving her in addition to her husband is her daughter: Kimberly Abbott, grandchildren: Eric Abbott, Jennifer Reachard and husband Cody, great-grandchildren: Emma Dietz, Everleigh Abbott, and Knox Reachard, siblings: Nancy Cullison and David Grote, daughter-in-law: Dawn Deuber, and long-time family friend: Kenita Lemmon.
Ginny was predeceased by her sons: Kris Abbott and Kirk Abbott.
