Virginia S. Griffin,92 years old, formally of Reisterstown, died Friday, July 25, 2008 at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Westminster. Born December 17, 1915 in Shippensburg, PA. she was the daughter of the late Samuel David Shugars, Sr. and Anna Zinn Shugars. She was predeceased by her husband's the late James Joseph Griffin and M. Fred Cooper.

Mrs. Griffin grew up in Hancock, MD. She was a graduate of the Strayer Business School. She was one of the first women to found their own Real Estate Brokerage in the Baltimore area, brokering her own corporation, Virginia S. Griffin Inc. for 30 years. She was the second woman in 102 years to serve as a Director on the Real Estate Board of Greater Baltimore. Along with her late husband James J. Griffin, they were prominent participants in the Reisterstown Community. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Lioness Club of Reisterstown and a member of the Democratic Club of the 4th District. She was co-founder of the Soroptimist International of Reisterstown, an organiziation for women executives. She was also an active member and Past President of the Womens Club of Glyndon and a member of the Glyndon United Methodist Church, were she often served on the Stewardship Committe. Mrs. Griffin enjoyed traveling and continued her interest in painting.

She is survived by her two sons and their spouses: David Ragan and Lynn Griffin of Westminster, Paul Steven and Mary Griffin of Surfside Beach, S.C. and her daughter Veronica G. "Ronnie" Eichelberger of Towson. Sister of Samuel David Shugars, Jr. of Deep Creek Lake, MD. and the late Helen Shugars Spence. Mother-in-law of Dorothy Griffin of Reisterstown. She is the grandmother of Edward Griffin, Carolyn Griffin Yaeger, Jennifer Griffin Whitfield, Emillie Hay Albrecht, Lauren Baumgartner and Lewis H. Eichelberger, IV. Great grandmother of Jack Yaeger, Camryn Yaeger, Bridget Carlisle Patricia Whitfield, Andrew Albrecht, Hanna Albrecht and Alanna Baumgartner.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 PM from the Patapsco United Methodist Church, 2930 Patasco Rd. Finksburg, (off Sandy Mount Rd.) The Rev. Mindy Coates officiating. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A. 11605 Reisterstown Rd. Owings Mills.
