Walter Melvin Preston, Jr. 76 years old of Sykesville, died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at the Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.
Born June 5, 1932 in St. Petersburg, FL., he was the son of the late Walter M. Sr. and Frances M. Canning Preston
He was the husband of the late Ruth Miriam Dickson Preston who died in January 2008.
Mr. Preston attended Johns Hopkins University, was a graduate of Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) where he was an outstanding student and wrestler. He held a masters degree in education along with multiple other degrees. He was a retired math teacher at the Franklin Middle School. Mr. Preston was a member of Covenant of Grace Presbyterian Church in Reisterstown. He coached wrestling and softball in the Reisterstown Recreational League. He enjoyed playing Bridge.
Mr. Preston is survived by his daughter Linda Tyce and her husband Lynn of Aurora, Colorado, son's Wayne Preston of Ellicott City and Gary Preston and his partner Frank Riggio of Baltimore and a granddaughter Olivia Lynn Tyce. Brother of Doris White of Crossville, TN. Brother-in-law of Bart Vidi of Bell, FL. He was predeceased by his son Michael Preston.
Friends may call on Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A. 11605 Reisterstown Rd. Owings Mills.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Covenant of Grace Presbyterian Church, 820 Nicodemus Rd. in Reisterstown. Rev. Dr. Herbert Ruby III officiating.
Interment in Lake View Memorial Park.
