Walter Sterrett Ringer, Sr., 82, of Manchester died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Brinton Woods Nursing and Rehab Center in Winfield.
Born December 12, 1928 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late John Herbert Ringer and Laura Thelma Ringer. He was the husband of the late Mildred J. "Millie" Holden Ringer, who passed away in 2005.
Years ago, he had worked for A&P, Giant Food, Dutterer's, and Shapiro's Food Stores.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of American Legion Post 116 in Reisterstown.
He enjoyed football, baseball, horse racing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law Ronnie and Bev Ringer of Hampstead and Walter, Jr. and Darelee Ringer of Manchester; his daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Greg Bonner of Manchester and Bonnie and Wynn Weir of Wichita, KS; a brother Paul Ringer of AZ; his grandchildren Jennifer Ann, Jodi Lynn, Gregory, Shelby, Austin, Michael, and Joshua; his 5 great grandchildren, and his one great great grandchild.
He was predeceased by his brothers William, Claude, Eddie, Donald, and Robert Ringer and his sisters Madeline Horrell and Alice Pounds.
The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Gary Buchman officiating.
Interment will be in Greenmount Church Cemetery in Greenmount.
