William "Bill" Edward Skinner, 79, of Hampstead, MD, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home. Born on July 26, 1946, in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Leon Jackley Skinner and Ethel Edna Evans Skinner. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Linda Mary Skinner.
Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Army. As a member of the Maryland DNR Forest Service, he spent many years working as a forest ranger. He assisted all around the country and took numerous trips to help fight wildfires, working his way up to the national crew boss position. He loved dressing up as Smokey Bear at community events, and he enjoyed being able to educate and entertain the children. Bill enjoyed his time at Tideland Park on Taylors Island, where he served on the Board of Directors. He also served on the board at Charlotte's Quest Nature Center in Manchester and was a member of the American Legion Post 200 in Hampstead.
Surviving him in addition to his wife are sons: Keith Adam Skinner and wife Jessica, Aaron Matthew Skinner and wife Kimberlee, grandchildren: Steven Thorn and wife Kailey, Ryan Thorn and partner Jaymee Eastman and her children, Paisley and Austyn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his siblings: Phillip Skinner, Chuck Skinner, Jackley Skinner, Rosa Pohl, and Glenda Skinner.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 11 from 2-6 p.m. at the American Legion Post 200, 4600 Legion Lane, Hampstead, MD 21074. ( Bill Skinner Celebration Of Life Flyer )
In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered in Bill's memory to Charlotte's Quest Nature Center, c/o CFCC, 255 Clifton Boulevard, #313, Westminster, MD 21157.
