William Henry Pearson

William Henry Pearson Jr., 91, of Mobile, Ala., formerly of Butler, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008.

Born Feb. 20, 1916, in Maryland, he was the son of the late William Henry Pearson Sr. and Irene Klapproth Pearson. He was the husband of Louise C. Pearson, who died in 1991.

He served honorably with the Navy during World II. He was a sign painter and owner of Pearson Signs in Finksburg. He lettered and detailed many fire engines with gold leaf decorations.

He was a member of the Ionic Lodge No. 145, AF & AM. He entered volunteer fire service in 1939 as a member of the Glyndon volunteer fire company. He joined the Butler volunteer fire company in 1953, where he served as their engineer and for 21 years as their captain. He was active in the Baltimore County Volunteer Fireman's Association, where he served as both its vice president and president. He was also the association's training committee chairman and on the training committee of the Maryland State Fireman's Association.

After retirement, he moved to Alabama to be with family. While there he became active with the St. Elmo-Irvington

volunteer fire company, serving as its director.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law William H. Pearson III and Diana Pearson; grandchildren Yvette Durel and husband Jeremy, Charles A. Gaither and wife Anna, William H. Pearson IV and wife Becky and Michael Pearson; a brother, Wallace Pearson; a sister, Grace Walker; and several great-grandchildren and nieces.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel P.A., 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, with the Rev. William Louis Piel of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Finksburg officiating. Interment will be in Black Rock Cemetery in Butler.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday.
